The Chilham Tourism & Retailers Group first met in November 2006 as a result of an initiative by the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding National Beauty Unit, and supported by the Chilham Environmental Protection Society (CEPS).Some twenty local tourism-oriented businesses were invited, and participated in the initial stages of the development of the group.
Since then the group has got together with increasing regularity and has a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer; and formal Membership. Currently under discussion is whether to formalise with a constitution in order to assist funding applications for projects.
Whilst our core membership is tourism-related businesses, we are concerned to provide a forum and to support all local small businesses whatever their focus. We are also careful to liase with the Parish Council and other statutory bodies, and we have amongst our members such local institutions as the Church and the Village Hall.

No doubt some prefer the peace and quiet, but we believe it is possible to have a vibrant local economy without destroying our beautiful environment.
